Description
The 2018 harvest in Ainzón recovered a solid production after a much lower yield in 2017. The rainfall in winter and spring was more generous than normal (+530 l/m2) but without frost or hailstones. The grapes enjoyed exceptional health, no mildew present, with excellent flowering and fruit setting. The good weather in summer and autumn allowed slow ripening until the harvest.
The 2017-2018 agricultural season began with a mild, dry winter with little rainfall until early January. The heavy rains began mid-January and continued until April. Spring was rather mild, with moderate temperatures and the gentle cierzo wind blowing frequently until well into the summer. This was cooler than the previous year and relatively dry, with practically no rainfall from the end of July until late autumn. Optimum weather accompanied the harvest.
Production: After pressing, grapes were fermented and aged in cement tanks, followed by time in used barrels.
Winemaker’s impression: Solid depth of colour and aromas of red fruits and violets on a mineral background. Flavoursome on the palate, with a long finish, enhanced by excellent freshness.
